Day 9: Build traffic through leaving comments

I’m pretty fearless. I’m ok with spiders, heights and public speaking. I am afraid of cats, but that is only because they are evil. I was also afraid of commenting on other people’s blogs. I had heard it was a good way to get traffic and links, but what if people didn’t like me? Now that I think about it, that is just crazy talk, because it’s me of course they will like me. It just seemed like I was invading on someone’s personal space. So I knew I had to start commenting, so I wrote my goal for 5 comments in a month on a sticky note and put it on command central. I dreaded that sticky note, and did everything to avoid it, but the deadline was fast approaching. So I left my first comment, followed by several others the same day. Here are several tips for leaving great comments.

1. Stay on topic. Comment on blogs that are relevant to yours.

2. Be complimentary. You like to know when people are reading your blog right? So does everyone else.

3. Develop a tough skin. There are going to be people out there who don’t like me, those people are wrong, but it’s the internet. People are much freer with their words here than they are normally, but you will make some good friends.

4. Add something to the conversation. Separate yourself from all the other “Great post” comments.

So here’s your chance people. Share your best and worst commenting experiences by commenting on this post. Try it you’ll like it, all the cool kids are doing it.
